SRB Appellate Tribunal

The SRB Tribunal is an appellate forum. It was established to hear the appeals against the orders passed by the officers of SRB under sections 55, 56, and 58 of the Act. The appeals, the value of which not exceeding 5 million can be heard and decided by a single bench, and the appeals, the value of which is more than 5 million can be heard and decided by a division bench of the Tribunal. The Appellate Tribunal is also empowered to grant stay of recovery of tax. The Appellate Tribunal can affirm, modify, or annul the order being appealed against or remand the case to the officer of the SRB or Commissioner (Appeals) for making such inquiry or taking such action as the Tribunal may direct.

Nadeem Azhar Siddiqi

Mr. Justice (Retd) Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui was born in Karachi in an educated family. His late father Prof. Azhar Ali Siddiqui was an advocate and former principal of Islamia Law College. He passed his LLB in 1983 in first class and was enrolled as an advocate in the year 1983. In the year 1986, he was enrolled as an advocate High Court and was enrolled as an advocate Supreme Court in the year 2001. He was elected Honorary Secretary, Karachi Bar Association and was also elected Honorary Secretary of the Sindh High Court Bar Association.

He was appointed Deputy Attorney General for Pakistan in the year 2002 and was elevated as Judge of the High Court Sindh in the year 2005. He opted for premature retirement in the year 2009. In 2015, he was appointed as the Chairman/ Judicial Member of the Sindh Labour Appellate Tribunal and then was appointed as the Chairman/ Judicial Member of the SRB Tribunal in the same year.

    2016 to 2019

    He was born at Hyderabad. He was appointed as Civil judge and 1st Class Magistrate and was promoted as Senior Civil Judge and Assistant Session Judge. Then, he was promoted as Additional District and Sessions Judge. He also worked as Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Law, Government of Sindh. Then he served as Registrar, Labour Appellate Tribunal Sindh. He was prompted as District and Sessions Judge. Moreover, he worked on key posts, Like; Judicial Member-Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, Pakistan, Chairman-Insurance Tribunal of Pakistan, Judge-Banking Court, Presiding Officer-Election Commission of Pakistan.

    He has qualified CSS Exam and Joined Income Tax Group in 1971. After gradual promtions served as; Secretary-I.T Settlement Commission (BS-20), Commissioner Income Tax Karachi, Member- Income Tax Appellate Tribunal. He also enrolled as Advocate with Sindh Bar Council in 2007. Later on, He was enrolled as Advocate with High Court of Sindh with special emphasis to Taxation Law.

    He holds a Master's degree in International Law and Economics from World Trade Institute, University of Bern, Switzerland. Joined Civil Service In 1986 and has served in Pakistan Audit & Accounts Service, Pakistan Customs Service and Inland Revenue Service for about 33 years in various positions before retiring as Accountant Member, Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue. Post retirement, he was appointed as Advisor to Federal Tax Ombudsman.
