Released in 1995 in arcades and later home consoles, Mortal Kombat 3 is the third game in the fighting game franchise and the last to utilize 2D digitized actors for character models before the series transitioned into 3D. The game follows up after the events of Mortal Kombat 2, with Shao Khan deciding against further tournaments and deciding to invade Earthrealm with Kitana
